Grandkids are the greatest! I have three grandsons, Nathan 12, Aidan, almost 10 and Oren 19 months old. The end of June I had the opportunity and pleasure to take care of Oren for a week while his daycare was on vacation. It was a huge treat to have him at our house but oh my, I know why we have our kids when we are young. He's a busy little boy...all boy, mud puddles and all.
The daycare is taking a break again in August and he's coming to hang out with us for a week then. Can't wait!
My husband Ron and I took a trip to Ketchikan, Alaska where we lived for 22 years. After that many years there, raising our kids, living and working it truly feels like home. We stayed with good friend and visited many others. Ketchikan is the first or last stop on most Inside Passage Alaska cruises. During our 5 days there the passengers on the cruise ship saw the kind of weather that I'm sure makes them wonder why would anyone live there. It was in the mid-50s, raining and most of the time the wind was pushing the rain sideways. This is not your typical July weather but in Ketchikan you never know. Now living in Oregon I have to say I don't miss the weather but I so miss the people of Alaska. They are a wonderful bunch, full of Alaska spirit.
My husband is away on business for a few days. I'm home having my own "personal quilt retreat"....no housework and not much cooking. I've finished a Kaleidescope quilt top and a new quilt called Patriotic Snails or Sousa's Snails..haven't decided. I've cut out a Crazy Curves quilt and started piecing an I Spy quilt for my grandson Oren. I've also written directions for this month's block of the month for the Quilted Hill, in Yamhill, Oregon. I have taken time to walk the dogs so have gotten some fresh air but for the most part my head it down sewing away. It's not as fun as a quilt retreat with friends. I'm missing the laughter, fun and good food but I'm getting a lot accomplished. Try it sometime.
With that, it's time to get back to sewing....Peggy
