Stars in the Night Workshop

starsinthenightI'm leaving today to drive to Bellevue, Washington where I will be teaching Stars in the Night at the Quiltworks Northwest shop. Stars in the Night is a pattern designed by Jacqueline de Jonge of Be Colourful Designs, in The Netherlands. It's an amazing design and looks very complicated but when broken down into individual units it doesn't seem so daunting. The workshop is three days and students will have a good start on their quilt and have made units of each segment.

If you're interested in the Stars in the Night pattern I have them available on my website. The pattern has been updated from the original pattern I used making it clearer to understand. A major portion of the quilt is paper pieced. I used freezer paper to create my paper piecing patterns. If you fold back the freezer paper on the lines and sewing along side of the line and not through the paper, there is no paper to tear away from the back. In making the whole quilt I never sewed through paper. It worked great and in my opinion saves time by not having to remove the paper. I use this technique in all my workshops that include paper piecing.

It's about a 4-hour drive from where I live in Oregon to Sammamish, Washington, northeast of Seattle, where my son, Travis and family live. I will stay with them during the 3 days of the class. I would have normally driven up on Thursday but with snow predicted I thought it might be good to get out before the snow arrives. I look forward to the class as well as time with Travis, wife, Sharon and grandson's Nathan 11 and Aidan 9.

Be safe and Happy Quilting.
