Happy Spring

first_family_pictureWhere did April go and we're halfway through May. Wow.... I've had two out of town trips in April, one to teach and one personal. 25 years ago on May 3rd we adopted our daughter Allison. The picture was taken May 3, 1986, Our son's Travis and Ian and families along with us went to California to surprise her for her anniversary.

Ron's brother Jerry lives in Vista, 30 minutes from Allison in Temecula so he and wife Deborah were very helpful with the surprise as well as being a wonderful place for us to stay. Allison was totally surprised. It was a fun trip and it also felt good to be warmed with the beautiful California weather.

The first week of May I went to Salt Lake City to teach at the Home Machine Quilting Show. This was my third trip there and the show just keeps getting bigger and better. The artistic machine quilting is over the top...amazing. I taught two classes of Freezer paper Foundation Piecing and a lecture on Borders and Binding. If you haven't tried paper piecing with freezer paper....give it a try. It's a great technique with no paper to tear away from the backside. Saves time and is not as messy. I enjoyed my trip to Utah. It's always fun to meet quilters from different parts of the country.

This weekend is a celebration for my parent's 60th wedding anniversary. We're getting together to join them at the grange hall in McMinnville, Oregon where they dance. It will be fun to celebrate with their friends. Saturday we're having pictures taken, brunch and an open house at their house. Busy weekend and so fun to celebrate such a big occasion.PS_Start

With all that's going on there has little time for quilting. I am working on a new quilt, Patriotic Snails. I'll be teaching it in Maryland in September. Here's a picture of the start. Maybe next week I can get back to it.

The weather here in Oregon has finally improved a little allowing for some weeding and planting new plants. I hope spring has arrived where you live. Ourdoor gardening does take away some from quilting time. During out time in Ketchikan, Alaska gardening wasn't such a priority which left time for quilting all year long. Sort of miss that extra time but I do like flowers in my yard.

Happy Spring....Peggy
